
In 2007, thanks to our Cast Members we were able to successfully complete the projects listed below.
1. Operations Support Our Troops - February 2007 The Hollywood Casino Cast Members collected 300 pounds of items that were sent to the men and women serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. A third grade class at a local school also contributed letters and pictures for the troops. In addition, $250 was donated by Hollywood Casino for postage.
2. Historic Restoration - View Street House - April 2007 On April 28, 2007 the Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers assisted the City of Aurora Historic Preservation Department in laying sod, planting flowers and bushes in the final steps in completing the restoration work on a historically significant house located on the near west side of Aurora. Hollywood Casino donated $1,500 for the landscaping and supplied the volunteers to complete this project.
3. Used Book & Eyeglasses Donations - March 2007 Hollywood Casino employees donated "gently used" children's books that were delivered to LifesSpring (woman and children's shelter) and two schools in Aurora that were in need of books for students to use in their classroom libraries. Used eyeglasses were collected and donated to the "Lions Club" for distribution to those in need in developing nations.
4. Holy Angels Food Pantry - July 2007 - December 2007 (3rd Friday of each month) Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers joined other pantry volunteers to help bag and sort grocery items to benefit 500 families per month. In addition, $750 was donated to the food pantry.
5. Backpacks and School Supplies - August 2007 At the start of the school year many low-income children and those living in shelters are unable to afford the school supplies needed to start the school year. Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers collected donations from employees and school supplies were delivered to schools throughout Aurora as well as two homeless shelters.
6. Historic Restoration - View Street House - September 2007 On September 7, 2007 the Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers assisted the City of Aurora Historic Preservation Department in the final inside painting and outside cleanup of the View Street house. This was the end of a two-year commitment to the restoration work on this historically significant house located on the near west side of Aurora.
7. Holiday Hopes - November/December 2007 In conjunction with the Salvation Army the Hollywood Casino employees collected holiday gift items for needy children and seniors in nursing homes in the Aurora area. Hollywood Casino Star Volunteers collected, sorted and delivered the items to the Salvation Army warehouse for delivery. Additionally, a check $500 was presented to the Salvation Army for purchase of any additional gift items that were needed.
